Whether you’re working with a small group or teaching at home, this activity adds a fun DIY twist to any map skills lesson.

Materials Needed:

Paper Plate Compass Instructions:

  1. Write N, E, S, W around the edge of the plate like a compass rose.
  2. Decorate the space between with colors, arrows, or stickers.
  3. Cut out an arrow from cardstock or print our free arrow template.
  4. Use a brad to attach the arrow to the center so it spins.
  5. Practice turning it toward different directions or use it in a movement game!

Learning Ideas!

  • Have the kids turn the arrow when you say a direction.
  • Use it during a scavenger hunt or Simon Says game.
